Last week, I finally bought my first car. It´s a lovely 06/2004 Focus 1.8 Viva (115 PS) with great equipment and in very good condition.

That seems like a good choice. At least you didn't get a Fiesta or a Ka. ;)

Ingo won't think it's lovely mind you.

Is it a Ghia, by the Wheels?

I know, Ingo won´t be impressed by that, but I´m very proud of this car. The only real problem I had, were -as usual- rusty doors, but fortunately I have three years left of the rust warranty, so I don´t have to pay for the repair and painting.

Car in the pic seems to be Futura trim.

Focus I is definately a better car than the boring Golf IV

Since you're a Ford enthusiast, I think you've made the right choice :)

Err, well... a Granada 2.8i Ghia would have been a nicer choice
No kidding: when I saw this picture first, before your comment, I thought about the smeared-on text (I cannot read it, I don't know Polish): Maybe it was the landlord of this girl. He wrote "Don't destroy the sight of my nice house with parking this ugly thing in front of it!" :p

Although I'm a Ford-hater, I must admit, that the Focus is the first reliable European Ford after terrible decades. This is not from me! It's written in all buyers guides and classic car magazines. They -not only one- say, the last reliable Ford was the 1948 "Buckeltaunus"

P.S. Is it an Opa-Auto? This is always the best choice, no matter, what a car it is.

Good literature for the very first steps of orientation - but nothing more. These "Jetzt mache ich es mir selbst"-books have the nickname "How to wash my car" in the classic car scene :D Because nothing more stands there.

I don´t know how old the previous owner was, but I guess it was an older one. He bought it in 2004 at the dealership where I work. It´s also "Scheckheft-gepflegt" and as I said, it´s in very good condition. The underside is extremely rust-free and the inside is very well-kept, too.

Ok :D Well, I already had a large knowledge about cars and repairs, but since I´m an apprentice I´ve learned even more. And some of my colleagues repair old cars in their spare time too, so I can ask them as well, if I don´t know something.

The blue-covered repair manuals from the Swiss Bucheli-Verlag are much better (unfortunately there was never one for my car)

Today there was the common opinion again "Fortunately it's no Ford!" :D I brought the Vectra to an Opel-garage, because the bowden cable for the front hood was torn. The mechanic was so skilful, that he could open it with his fingers, after removing the skid plate and loosening and moving the cooler for some centimeters.
This is not possible at several Ford-models, he told me, because they have the idiotic construction, that the lock of the front hood is just a regular lock as in the doors, to use by the ignition key after shoving the Ford-plum-badge on the grille away. When this part is blocked or broken, you only can open the hood with an angle grinder or a crowbar. How idiotic!
And this can happen easily. A brother-in-law had this problem after annother car had bumped just very slightly and the front license plate of his Focus C-Max. :/

Oh yeah, this construction is really idiotic and annoying, cause you always need the key to open the hood. This system had the Mk I and Mk II Focus, C-Max, Mk III Mondeo and 2008-2013 Kuga. Actually it´s quite simple: Twist the Ford badge to the left, put the key into the lock, turn it left (hood bounces up), then turn it right and lift the hood.
Unfortunately the Kuga has always a Keyless-Go system, so the spare key (e.g. central locking doesn´t work) is integrated to the remote control (Link to "data.motor-talk.de") and the key is so small, which means openning the hood is painful job for the fingers.

Fortunately all new models have a normal lever in the driver´s floor.

It has cost 273,96 €. I guess, much less than for a Ford.
