At first there was no EU-market back then (even no EU, just EC), plus the fact, that the Cortina MkIII as LHD was sold only in some single countries as Austria and Czechoslovakia -both no EU/EC-members back then- but not everywhere in Europe. People who owned these cars were if "important persons", if persons who had bought a car abroad. There are some other ways to own a western car, but not officially.

In all other COMECON-countries, also Bulgaria, appreared much more Western cars than there. btw.: recently someone has digged out new informations (well not really new, but new for me): /vehicle.php?id=408379
