Although the body is quite similar to that found on some McFarlans ,I do not think that this is a McFarlan because all McFarlans had much more pointed and angular grilles. The grille here is rounder and matches better that of the Locomobile Model 48 of ca 1923.It may thus be a Locomobile 48 town cabriolet of ca 1923 with a non-factory body.Call all experts... |

Cher Pilou, comme je suis au bureau ... je travaille de mémoire. C'est vrai, la Locomobile est une variante possible. ... à moins qu'il s'agisse d'une voiture importée carrosée en Californie!!! |

I have done further research on this one .As I thought it is a Locomobile 48 , but somewhat older , ca 1919 and with a specific factory body type .Locomobile advertised this type of bodywork in its magazine advertising as the " Gowler Coupe Limousine", " a type adapted from the old London four wheels" possibly referring to four wheeled horse carriages .As shown on the pictures the windshield was foldable and when folded with the driver's compartment top removed ,the ( poor) driver was totally exposed to weathering. As on horse carriages ,the running boards of the passenger compartment were integrated with the rear fenders and with small mud guard fenders. It is an extremely interesting document since I have only seen this car on the ads. |
