I do not know who renamed it. I was waiting for your confirmation about the AM25 since I did not find it on Google.

Wow, I didn't know Asia Motors was represented here. Asia Motors was Kia's sister company. They offered big utility vehicles, small economy utility vehicles(like above memntioned Towner), military jeeps(supplying to Korean army) and civilian version of the military mobiles. The company was bankrupted late 1990s. I think one of the company high official stole about US$380 mil. and fleed to Brazil. The company couldn't overcome the hardship and perished although I believe the struggling company prob. wouldn't survive even without that incident. Revised versions of some Asia moters' products are still being offered by Kia.

Sometimes Korean car mazed us :)
This AM25 is face-lifted '80s Mazda Parkway.

This bus being face-lifted Mazda is nothing surprising as most of Kia's offerings before Hyundai take-over had some Mazda in them. The only Korean Auto company that has nothing to do with Japan I can think of is SsangYong. Except SsangYong, all have or had some ties with Japanese. Some have or had more Japanese influence than others. I'll say Kia, Samsung(Now called Renault-Samsung), and Hyundai were heavily incluenced while Daewoo(Now GM Daewoo) was not as much.
I think the only Korean auto company that still has serious tie with Japanese is Renault-Samsung as both Renault-Samsung and Nissan are owned by Renault. I read news several days ago that Renault-Samsung has started exporting(first ever for Renault-Samsung) its smallest offering SM3 has been exported as Nissan Almera in Russia and countries around Russia and Sunny in Middle East, South America and etc.
Kia's tie with Mazda through alliance with Ford is none existent now as it's owned by Hyundai. And Hyundai's tie with Mitsubishi through DC is also pretty weak as Hyundai's relationship with DC has been soured. And I think Hyundai doesn't need DC's umbrella any more.

Former cars built by Asia Motors were CKD-kits Fiat 124 B,in early '70s(they had assembled also Fiat 125 and 132
and some Peugeot 604 in same form)Under name Asia were locally-built the Unic mid-trucks and buses(by a 1972 photo results me were still built in that period)

But Asia Motors is the name of the factory, the vehicles are simply badged as "Asia", even in the manuals and presentations they are referred to as Asia.
