Leganza ◊ 2008-03-09 15:29	"Besides Germany, Passat and Santana they were manufactured in Spain, South Africa (where the three-volumes were also Passat), Japan, China and Nigeria. In Mexico, the four-doors and the wagon were called Corsar. Those models were also sold at the North American market, surprisingly with the name so much Quantum in the sedã four-doors as in the hatchback of three (a so much stranger for the great length, later substituted by the of five) and in the wagon, to Quantum. Thrown in 1982 to substitute Dasher--Passat of first generation--, he offered motors four-cylinders of 1,7 liter and five-cylinders in line of 2,2 liters, the same of Audi 5000S (100 in Europe). That motor of 2.226 cm3 (diameter of 81 mm and course of 86,4 mm, as in the 1,8-liter) it used injection Bosch KE-Jetronic and it developed 115 cv. It also equipped the version Syncro of integral traction, based on the mechanics of Audi 4000 (80 in Europe). From 0 to 100 km/h took about 10 s. the back suspension was independent, with semi-dragged arm, once the torsion axis is not applied to motive axes. The Quantum offered two years of warranty without number of kilometers travelled limit and resources that national Santana never had, as automatic control of speed and disc brakes back. In compensation, your four rectangular lights with direction lights below and voluminous bumpers were far away from the pattern of beauty of the Brazilians... and of the Americans also. Ingo ◊ 2008-09-04 19:54	@Leganza: very detailed information, but a little correction: the 32 B-Passat was launched in 1980, not 1982. And not all Passat had four front lamps! The older, basic version had just two lamps, the two smaller one were just fakes. I know this model quite well. Between 1986 and 1996 my father had (after a 1973 Passat, a 1976 Passat and an 1977 Audi 80) a fourdoor 1981 Passat LS (before CL) hatchback and between 1999 and 2004 I drove a 1987 Passat Variant GT.
Ingo ◊ 2008-09-04 20:03	P.S. with Daddy's blue 81-Passat I made in 1988 my first own driving experiences. My father did trust me, so my first long-distance-trip alone was a tour into the GDR. Inlcuded the usual GDR-experiences at the border-control (GDR-officers creeping under the car, searching in the luggage and so on). But I was better than they - they didn't find the smuggled political magazines (strictly forbidden!) In this case my father wouldn't have seen his car again. Perhaps me neither for a while A good place for smuggling in the 32B-Passat is the space behind the glove-box. Around 8 or 9 magazines and newspapers I've stored there, packed in a black plastic-bag. The car had no middle-console, only a plastic-plate with the cigarette-lighter, so it was easy to open. -- Last edit: 2008-09-04 20:05:02
