Maruti Suzuki 800? |

Such car, but maybe original Japanese Alto? The Maruti had the rear badge placed more to the right: http://hazaribag.olx.in/maruti-suzuki-800-iid-452326812 Alto more to the left: http://www.flickr.com/photos/38389354@N07/5992670221/ OK - honestly it doesn't look like any of them (except that badge itself is IMO more tall and narrow, like in "Maruti-Suzuki") - so possible there were minor changes in badge position during the prod. period (in both cases)... -- Last edit: 2012-11-29 00:56:34 |

I may be wrong, but as far as I know in Italy was sold only the Maruti Suzuki 800 and never the original Alto. At the time was one of the top selling car in Italy and now is disappeared even from junkyards... |

It was also very common car in Poland of the second half of the 80, quite easily accessible not-comecon car. I remember 3 standing in my street. I never saw an Alto, it was always Maruti. -- Last edit: 2012-11-30 19:12:56 |

In first half 90s, to be precise. Wasn't available here until 1991. |

Are you sure it was 1991? Hm.. I tried to refresh my memory and I think in the 80's it might not be Maruti what filled (keeping the proportions) the streets, but Daihatsu Charade. |

I believe, if it was in the 1980s, then you mean Charade (Diesel) indeed. In the mid-80s the older Alto (SS80) was for a while available, but it was uncommon. |

I missed one year. The importer - DAMIS (still alive!) claims 'In the years 1990-1993 we sold on the Polish market over 10,000 Suzuki Maruti cars'. However they started in late 1990 I suppose because today hard to find 1990 Maruti in Poland, 1991-1993 happens. |

Further info: the 1000th Maruti (on Polish market) was sold in December 1991 and 1500th in February 1992. |
