No, this is not a problem, as between block and head is always the cylinderhead-gasket, so there is no direct connection. At my K 70 it's the other way round, iron block and aluminium head - and there was never ever any problem or defect, caused by the two different metals. |

The problem is not reaction between the surfaces of the two components, as quite rightly pointed out, the gasket puts a layer between them. However, as I have experienced on my Bentley, the studs protruding from the top of the engine block can corrode and react with the inside of the studhole in the cylinder head, forming a kind of crust which prevents the head from being lifted. The cure is to apply a pulling force, use a well known bottled drink flavoured by the leaves of a plant to dissolve the corrosion, and wait. After several weeks the cylinder head of my car moved, permitting us to see the dreadful state of the internals. It has all been rebuilt in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications, and at vast expense. I now never touch carbonated beverages. -- Last edit: 2014-11-23 18:48:22 |
