US models appear to be badged as 'Minor' too. http://www.mmoc.org.uk/index.php?page=90 Link to "pinball2k.net" http://allcarcentral.com/pix_morris_minor_1000_1957_pc-1.jpg Link to "3.bp.blogspot.com" -- Last edit: 2012-10-18 19:38:45 |

I had a black '58 with a grey grille, which IIRC was normal at that time. |

Should the US models on the site be changed to Morris Minor 1000 if they were badged as such? |

This could be a problem question - we have evidence both ways (see Morris 1000 evidence at /vehicle_445262-Morris-1000-Convertible-1957.html). It's only relevant for 57+ cars as previous Minors were not 1000. Badges in photos unlikely to prove anything unless we can get such accurate close-ups to be able to separate Minor 1000 from Morris 1000 for boot and front wingsides. More ![]() ![]() |

Email reply from Tony Burgess - Morris Minor Registry of North America - http://morrisminor.intuitwebsites.com/ Q1] what names were used on Minors sold in US, particularly after Oct 56 when Minor 1000 appeared - were these Morris Minor 1000 or just Morris 1000? A1] In the US they were know as Morris Minors or Morris Minor 1000 Q2] what the boot and front wing badges might have been? A2] to my knowledge there were no differences between the UK & US models on badges.* Q3] Also in general which models and bodies were sold and when - were there for instance any 1098cc sales from 63 onwards?- A3] Again - no differences between UK & US models - Minor 948's were used until 63 (or so) then 1098's until the end. The bulk of the cars came into the US between 1957 and 1961. * which for UK were Minor 1000 - what I was trying to establish was whether they might have said Morris 1000, which would probably look identical in most pictures from more than a couple of inches away. So this exchange suggests Morris Minor 1000 should apply. Are we ready for a Definite Imcdb Decision to abandon Morris 1000, or do folk want to explore further?? |

Like several of us, I've been misled (?) by the ad shown at /vehicle_445262-Morris-1000-Convertible-1957.html . I'd be inclined to trust Mr Burgess rather than the ad agency. But some of the Morris 1000 entries are Scandinavian: what happens to them? Can any of our Norsemen help? |

The USA tends to think of cars' engine capacities in cubic inches. Therefore we would have the Morris 57.84 pre 1963 and the Morris 66.99 post 1963. I'm sure that we didn't, and the information from Mr Burgess corroborates this, what's more, a Morris Minor was always a Morris Minor as opposed to an Oxford, a Six or an Isis, no matter what its engine capacity. |
