I have seen such vehicle in one of the book. This has canvas side door for both front and rear access. These are from the Volkswagen military vehicles ![]() |

Does anyone know a picture of Volkswagen Type 98? According the Wikipedia page it said: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Type_82#Body_variants -- Last edit: 2012-08-23 02:40:50 |

No, these were police cars, not military vehicles. Actually they were called Polizeistreifenwagen [Typ 18]. They were built by Hebmüller and (I think) also by some other coachbuilders, in 1947 and 48. |

In the post-war lifetime of Hebmüller there was no German army ![]() Well, yes the VW Typ1 was also in use there (why this very incomplete list says http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_von_Radfahrzeugen_der_Bundeswehr 1975+ for it, I cannot say). But never with special bodywork. When I made my service in 1990/1991 there were still two VW Käfer in our unit, 1975 MY VW 1200, used by the corpsmen. Although it doesn't appear in any book about Bundeswehr-vehicles, and not any photo is known - yes, there were some single K 70 in military use. At least 3 were known. It was -as to be expected ![]() -- Last edit: 2012-08-23 19:57:42 |

http://www.fomcc.de/fordsetzung/03_2/vw_kuebel.jpg although post war non military development, it is a pure Kübelwagen by style as it has no doors, even the button up canvas doors are typically for the very first Kübelwagen of WW I long before VW http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%BCbelwagen "Polizeistreifenwagen" is general expression for police patrol car still used today like Police cruiser in LA But Gendarmerier surely only used in southwest Germany going back to Napoleon more than to Ferdinand Porsche , TMO not specific for VW Cabrio people on black market surely called this a Kübelwagen in Howard Hawks I Was a Male War Bride "Polizeistreifenwagen" were US Jeep, filled with german "Gendarmes" -- Last edit: 2012-08-24 08:28:47 |
