Gag Halfrunt ◊ 2012-11-04 20:00	They didn't waste fifteen cars by making mistakes and then doing reshoots. They'll have storyboarded the chase and dressed each car with a different level of damage to portray the car at different stages of the chase. By working with a set of cars deliberately damaged in advance (and which are safe to drive no matter how wrecked they appear) they can film the different parts of the chase in the order that's most convenient and they can film multiple versions of each part (with the actors or with the stunt doubles, close up or long shot, etc.) and edit them together however they want. They don't have to worry about continuity errors or being unable to reshoot something because they haven't got any doubles left.

dsl ◊ 2012-11-04 20:21	I suspect the cars were later than 2007 - Audi would have provided current cars for film date (or even anticipated film release date as 2012). Given how regularly Audi tweak details, can we be more precise?

DarrenL ◊ 2018-09-27 10:29	Hi everyone - I was the AV coordinator on this film and I can assure you that we did indeed use 15 Audi A5s (none of which came from Audi, they were all purchased). The previous contributor was incorrect in assuming that we used 15 in order to create cars with different levels of damage - that isn't the case. In actual fact, if you think about it, how can you create a level of damage that 'might' happen during a sequence? The truth is that no one can anticipate exactly how much a car will become damaged during a particular stunt, so therefore pre-damaging other cars for accurate continuity is impossible..... 15 cars were used because, although short, the sequence had numerous different elements that required very specific preparation of the car. Some cars were prepped for the actual chase, others for the roll, and others for an element wherein the two cars were actually joined together on a special rig that allowed full control of the rate of spin that occurred when the Land Rover hit the Audi. Also, as with all large budget movie productions, each element of the film has multiple cars prepped for the same gag (2 cars to go on the rig, 4 cars prepped to roll, etc). Hope this helps.....

Production insights like these are worth their weight in gold. Wish we had this level of documentation for the Diamonds are Forever '71 Mustangs.
