Agreed. I saw this movie when I was about 9 and winced even then.

Luckily, the damage was pretty much confined to a bullet hole and hammer dents in the trunklid and smashed out taillights on the passenger's side.

According to a claim by a poster on the Chrysler Forward Look website (who apparently supplied some parts to the production), two DeSotos were used in this movie: One genuine 1959 Firesweep convertible (which was pampered) and one 2-door hardtop with the roof cut off, which was not. Although the latter had some damage, it basically survived the production, and was given a top mechanism and fully made into a convertible by a subsequent owner.
