It's a Coupe Deville, not a Sedan Deville.

Leoz wrote Yeah. These guys were cool though. I once read that there was a deleted scene that never made it to a DvD extra, where 'Billy' and his pals get out of their car at the end and inspect the wreck they caused.

Yup, it was also in the original movie release, as well the older VHS release (I have one) its pretty funny, in the DVD you can still hear them (you just don't see them)

Note the loose hood and grille on the passenger side.It looks like it was pulled apart to wreck easier during the crash.

Possibly the same one (same plate) used in other scenes, whose roof was repainted:

It's the same car. Same plates and same dammages on the door and the rear fender.

I never would have thought that. Excellent observation about the plates. Why would they go to the trouble to paint the roof?

If you look carefully, that's Hallicki wearing a cowboy hat.

Probably to make the car less obvious as being used as a background vehicle as well. Obviously it worked as most people here didn't notice it was the same car. The repainted roof didn't need to be a professional job. It just had to look good enough from a distance on camera. Besides, why wreck another perfectly good '65 Cadillac when they can just add some more crash damage to an existing vehicle in the movie company's motor pool. With the limited budget, I am sure it was much cheaper to do a hack paint job of a roof than acquire another car for a scene that takes a few seconds.

I suspect this car was also used in the "stoners' car" guise with black top when Eleanor enters the service department at Moran Cadillac. Just before it rams the bronze first-generation Eldorado on jacks, the Mustang had backed up into a '65 Coupe Deville in white with black top. I suspect that to stretch the budget as far as possible, this martyr Cadillac was sacrificed three times in the film. I wonder if it still ran afterwards? That was when they were built!

When I first heard of this movie, my perception was that it was a schlock bunch of nonsense, but then I actually WATCHED it, and despite some (lots?) of damage to some now very classic cars, it really is (dare I say) excellent, especially considering the limited budget. The aforementioned repainted roof shows Halicki's attention to detail and efforts to hide the real budget. And thank God they didn't wreck ANOTHER '65 Cadillac. Yeah, I really like this film as it captures a lot of details of car life in 1974.
