The ambulance is a 1977 Cadillac Superior High Top. No passenger car based ambulances were built in America after the watershed year 1977, because ambulances built on the downsized cars no longer met federal standards from 1978 onwards, and Superior, like other coachbuilders, switched to truck and van chassis.

^Well that's not true; here's a picture of a 79 ambulance: http://northwoodsimages.com/gallery3/index.php/Old-Limos/Ambulance---1

As my uncle who was a paramedic during the era explained to me; by the late 60s ambulances were well on their way to being emergency rooms on wheels and the Cadillacs simply weren't big enough. In some cases the headroom wasn't even high enough for an I.V. bag.

The last year for Cadillac ambulances was 1979, though they were the same model/body as the '77s. Though the car-chassis ambulances no longer met the US Federal specifications, they continued to be produced for a while. However, since Federal grant money was available for purchase of ambulances during the late-70s, and since that grant money had to be used to buy ambulances that met the specifications, most agencies used the money and bought van or truck ambulances, and business for the builders of car-chassis ambulances dropped to near-nothing.
