Right, and wrong at the same time. The car belongs of course to the P220 series. This number wouldn´t have meant much to the customer of the time though, since they were labeled 221 on the fenders. In Sweden they were known as Amazon Estate car, but the Amazon brand was protected by another manufacturer on other markets so instead they gave them model numbers. I might remember wrong but I think all estate cars were called 221, which indicates that they have the 75 or 85 hp single carburetor engine. Some of them were eqiupped with twin carbs though, which made them a 222. But nobody could tell on the outside. Volvo wasn´t consequent with the labeling these years, the sedans of the Amazon series were called 121 or 122S regardless if they were two or four doors. The two door models should have been 131 or 132S, but I guess that would have been too confusing for the market. It was easier when the 140 series came and you simply could count the doors to know what model it was ![]() But I do think it´s best here just simply to call it a P 220 since it´s an accepted term amongst the volvoclubs and others. The model year of this particular car is 1965 or 1966 if the grille is the original of the vehicle. -- Last edit: 2005-09-29 19:28:19 -- Last edit: 2005-09-29 19:29:27 |
