5 stars because it was a huge part of the series, from the 1st to the last episode.

The series is not about the car, and the car is not so famous (I think)

Actually , I think I was wrong, it's a 1971 not a '69.

I even think 4 stars is overrated, it is used now and then by some characters, but not that often...a lot of episodes are just inside the house...

I agree, the car is used some, but its’ not used in every episode.

I will stay on 4 stars.. same I gave for example to Devons red Mercedes SL (in Knight Rider) - it is also not used in every episode, but it is used by a character in pretty much of them.

Anyway in 1.12 confirmed - 1969 tan Oldsmobile station wagon

For the series the 4 stars depends on the series, there is no rule. For some ones it means that the car is used all the time in the episode for which it is listed, in others it just means that the car often comes back in the series.

I saw this episode tonight in which Eric says "Did you know that the bench seat of a Vista Cruiser is the same size of that in a full-size Pontiac Catalina?"

This definitely deserves four stars, the car itself was virtually a character.

Crossroads - as the "Moderator East" (co-president) of the GM Skywagon Club, and having owned three 1969 Vista Cruisers myself since 1982, I can say without any doubt that the car used in "That '70s Show" is definitely a '69.

I would have to agree with tv_boy that this car was itself a minor character, and probably the car that had the biggest profile of any TV show car other than KITT ("Knight Rider"), the General Lee ("The Dukes of Hazzard") or the fictional 1928 Porter in "My Mother The Car".

Although that Vista Cruiser didn't appear in every episode, it appeared in many episodes, including the first and the last episodes, and it was a large part of the plot in several episodes.

When the show ended, Wilmer Valderrama ("Fez") bought the car for $500 US.

Yeah, it's not worth more than 500 dollars. You can tell by the pictures that it's in pretty rough shape, it's got several dents and rust.

Did they only have one wagon throughout the run of the show?

If it was only ever used in studio then chances are the engine, fuel tank etc were removed for safety reasons so it may just have been a partly stripped shell.
Depends if it was ever driven on set rather than just pushed or towed into scenes.

Yes, they only had one wagon throughout the show. I have no idea if it was a complete car or not..

Not 5, driven twice in season eight, and mostly backed into the garage

It's definitely worth more than $500. In fact, it's easily over 20 times that amount. Why? Because it's that Vista Cruiser. It's the screen-used one. It's not just any old rust bucket Vista Cruiser on Craigslist (which, even in this condition today, would fetch more than $500).

That being said, I'd definitely be the first in line to buy it for $500 if it was ever for sale again! I wonder if Wilmer Valderrama still has it...

The price has NOTHING at all to do with the condition of the car. It is a prop car. For liability reasons, they cannot be resold to be licensed or driven on the road or even get into public hands due to the rigors of being used as a prop car - often prop cars do not even run because they sit so long on the lot or they do not need to. The $500 was likely the scrap value of it to the studio and Wilmer paid it.

When "Twister" (1996) wrapped filming, every Dodge RAM used in that movie that was brand spanking new from the factory assembly line and only did less than 100 miles were all crushed and destroyed in the scrapyard. Only Jo's backup prop Jeep that didn't get dropped on its roof still survives in the museum.

I'm talking about its cultural significance. If you were to list this one on eBay or Bring a Trailer or Mecum Auctions today, I guarantee it would fetch more than $500. In fact, I'll bet you $50,000 it would fetch more than $500. It doesn't matter what condition it's in (which you're likely right about); someone will want to just own it regardless. One of the '77 Camaros used in Transformers (2007) was sold on eBay shortly after the film's release, and it fetched somewhere in the neighborhood of $20,000 despite being in fairly rough shape.

The article link in now dead, but I'm going to guess they did the article because That '90s Show had just been announced.

Looks like 'The Cruiser' makes an appearance in the new show too. Which is kind of funny because in That '70s Show, Red never let Laurie drive it because it was unreliable, but he lets his grand daughter drive it 20 years later.
