For the 1980 model year, conventional four-wheel drive was adopted across the board on all rounded-line K-Series pickups and utilities after permanent four-wheel drive was discontinued due to the recent 1979 energy crisis. Shift-on-the-move four-wheel drive would arrive for the 1981 model year with the cosmetic facelift and mechanical refresh.
