Exact name: Alfa Romeo T33 TT 12. Not Alfa Romeo TT 33 12. The "T" from "T33" meaning "Tipo" is optional. But as this "T" has been taken into account in the names/models of the protos from the movie "Le Mans", I suggest to keep it. |

to ben68: The exact name is Alfa Romeo 33TT12, the TT stands for telaio tubolare (tubular chassis), the 12 -obviously- identifies the flat 12 cylinder boxer engine (later used in F1). This car was the 1975 Sportscars World Champion of Makes, winning 7 of the 8 valid races! The T at the front for Tipo is generic because the Tipo 33 was actually a series of 9 racing prototypes: 33.2 Periscopica, 33.2 Daytona, 33.2,5 Coda Lunga, 33.4 Tasman, 33.3 Le Mans, 33TT3, 33TT12, 33SC12 (in case anybody wonders SC stands for Scatolato -monocoque- chassis)and 33SC12 Turbo; 1 production car: 33 Stradale; and 4 concept models: Carabo(by Bertone), Coupé & Cuneo(by Pininfarina),and Iguana(by ItalDesign). With all due respect to the movie, which I believe it to be the second best motor racing picture ever, I suggest we keep the factory nomenclature: Link to "www.alfaromeo.com" -- Last edit: 2007-04-09 17:15:25 |
