Neptune ◊ 2012-04-30 19:29	2003 model only, due to the cosmetic facelift, but still retaining the old roof rail design. Wearing Oslo Blue, beautiful color. Land Rover finally removed the center differential lock for the 2003 models. Although there are reports that Land Rover removed the CDL in early 2001 (calendar year). So some pre-facelifted 2001 and 2002 models may not have the CDL either. The Discovery’s permanent four-wheel drive system relied entirely on four-wheel electronic traction control (ETC), which Land Rover (at the time) believed would render differential locks obsolete. The move toward ETC was also spurred on by Mercedes-Benz, which claimed the permanent four-wheel drive system in it’s M-Class (W163) was superior, thanks to electronic traction control being applied to all four wheels. The M-Class was the first SUV to use four-wheel enabled traction control with all open non-locking differentials.
