The touch drive buttons are visible on the dash in kegare’s second thumbnail capture. There are three buttons: 4x4 Auto, 4x4 High, and 4x4 Low. Auto mode is the primary mode and allows the center differential to bias torque back and forth between the front and rear drive-wheels. An interesting fact: ControTrac is rear-wheel drive based, but because the center differential can torque bias, the Explorer can become front-wheel drive for a brief moment when severe traction loss is detected or even anticipated by the advanced control software. High and Low modes both lockup the center differential, with Low mode also engaging low range gearing.
