Looks like a D-type Jaguar. The number 7 and the relaxed attitude suggests the driver to be Sir Stirling........... |

Previous comment deleted. Agree Jaguar D-type but difficult to find a convincing year/race identity with #7 - no obvious victories for instance (nor a #7 driven by Stirling Moss). The two possibilities found so far (both works team cars) are: 1] 1955 Le Mans - Tony Rolt/Duncan Hamilton (#XKD506), retired gearbox failure. 2] 1956 Nürburgring 1000 Km - Mike Hawthorn/Desmond Titterington (#XKD601), retired driveshaft failure. Fangio competed in both races (Merc 300 SLR race #19 at 1955 Le Mans, withdrawn; Ferrari 860 Monza #0602M, race #1 at 1956 Nürburgring, finished 2nd - http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/1956/Nurburgring-1956-05-27-001.jpg ). Any clues where/when in the footage or commentary? |
