dsl ◊ 2011-11-18 17:49	If this is a 1977 car [a] it is not a 911 S, as that name stopped in August 1975, and the choices for 1976-77 are 911 or 911 Carrera [b] it has later trim updates (as ^^), but underneath looks more likely to be plain 911 than Carrera (no headlamp washers, chrome headlight surrounds).

Ingo ◊ 2011-11-24 23:02	Something here is not correct. It has chrome around the side windows. This feature disappeared for the 1976 MY. Maybe the owner has tinkered them later on.

Lhotse5 ◊ 2017-09-23 23:30	Just before this image you can see that there are 5 characters on the badge on the rear lid not 4, which would denote '911S' but it's a little blurry due to motion but in this screenshot, you can almost make out that the 5 characters read '911SC'. This is from the 911 Wiki page. "Starting in 1978, the new 3.0 L 911 SC (2994 cc) was now the basic 911 model. It was in effect a Carrera 3 (known as a 911S in the US) detuned to provide 180 PS (132 kW)." So, based on this and the image, my guess would be that it's a 1978 911SC. and here's a picture of a verified 1978 911SC for comparison. -- Last edit: 2017-09-23 23:47:54 (Baube)

The plate info gives Jan 77 and 2687cc; all SC were 2994cc across all markets and autumn 77 onwards. I'm still uncertain about how long the 911 S continued for sale in US - there is no mention of it in either of my two Bumper Books of Porsches after 1975, and they have 1976 and 1977 as either plain 911 2687cc or Carrera 2994cc. But it seems there was an (unlisted in my books) intermediate US spec 911S in those years, probably as just a trim upgrade with the same mechanical spec as the base 911 with no mechanical enhancements. Googling gives several examples/references, with some pics of the rear badging, eg So nothing suggests this one is a 911SC, and it seems secure as a 1977 911S.

In Season 2 Episode 8, I got a much better screenshot of the back of the car and you're right, it is a 911S! Sorry for the confusion but I was almost positive it looked like 5 characters and after investigating the Wiki page and doing a comparison, I thought for sure it was the 911SC. -- Last edit: 2017-09-25 11:14:38

It was fun investigating it, as I must admit as I've been a Porsche enthusiast since I was a small boy and I owned a '66 for a while in my early 20's .. until I lost my license for a 90 days for too many speeding tickets. lol. Imported into Sweden from San Francisco in 2009, the Porsche is finished in Jager Grun - a typically 1970s olive green - and has had three owners in Sweden; it was purchased by The Bridge's production company - Filmlance International, its current owners - in October 2012. A desirable manual transmission model, restored at date unknown ...."
