1963 Lotus-Porsche (maybe it's not proper name?) "Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach highlights include legendary race driver George Follmer’s 1963 Lotus-Porsche, which won the 1965 USRRC championship against stiff competition from big-block Chaparrals, Lolas, Genies, Shelby Cobras, Elvas and other makes and teams. The Lotus 23, upgraded to “B” specs in 1965 by former Shelby engineer Bruce Burness, was powered by a 2.0-liter Porsche 904 engine that clinched the championship by two points over Chaparral at the 500-mile USRRC finale at Elkhart Lake, Wis." - Link to "www.sportscardigest.com" http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/1151274-post1463.html |

1963 Lotus 23B Porsche [#23-S-82], with "by George Follmer" as additional info would seem to descibe it very well. |

Right and wrong Follmer won the USRRC in 1965 in a lotus 23B powered by a 904 engine. There were hardly ANY big block cars running in 1965 and all were dog meat except for the Hussein 1 and it took AJ Foyt to make it go any good. The chaparrals were small block powered at that time. Never saw a big block Genie or Elva. Cobras raced in another class. |
