That is one thing that always irritated me about US stock car-races and demolition derbys: They excessively trash cars which are often 30+ years old. I really don't want to sound instructive or elitist, but no one would do that in Europe ( with the exception of the British banger-racers, of course). Here, even the worst wrecks are used for spare parts. And 30/35 year old cars which are still more or less in running condition almost always find someone who restores them. |

You know how to do it right over there. Wish more felt that way here! And you bring up a good point I've mentioned before. Even if a car is an old beater and not worth restoring, the parts could be invaluable to someone who is fixing up another one of the same model. -- Last edit: 2011-09-23 16:46:46 |

I read somewhere that this dates back in the Thirties and the Forties where the dealer has to deal with unsellable really worned out cars at their lots. They decided to host the Demolition Derby to attract their sales on these used cars.
