Cagiva Production began in 1991, and it was no longer called Californian. This is a previous model.

I think this is an Australian Leyland Moke, possibly a 1977 Californian: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini_Moke#Australian_Mokes

Portuguese assembly started 1980, with early ones being a copy of the Aus Californian.

The moke is a Portuguese build from the 1990's. Production stopped in Australia in June 1982 and it was into the next decade before they started again, using the left over stock of parts but they were not exact copies of Australian Moke so are pretty easy to spot the difference.

The did use the Californian name for the early builds but I think they just dropped it after awhile.

This is a 1988 film, so can't be a 1990s car. Portugese production was underway by 1983, possibly as far back as 1980 - sources are contradictory. Until we have a definitely confirmed date when Portugal started, then we should stick as we are with 1980.

More info - Portugal started building Aus-supplied CKD kits in 1980, with a Longbridge-supplied "Powerpack" - engine, subframes, brakes, steering, suspension, brakes. When Aus build stopped in Nov 81 and kit supply dried up, Longbridge increased its supply arrangements to Portugal, and from 1985 these became standard UK Mini spec componentry (eg UK 12" wheels), along with vertical rear panel. 1986 body revamp - original width mudguards reinstated, nerf bars, improved roll-over and weather structure, lockable rear boot. July 89 halted when Rover sold the project to Cagiva until resumed April 91, now just "Moke", revised sidescreens and other tweaks. Finally ended late 93.

I guess this has pre-86 wider mudguards, looks like a hardtop and maybe some 86+ bits added - nerf bar and non-standard racy wheels.
