I'd imagine this is a Ford, as they were the only company allowed to use this front suspension, because of the 25 year patent rights, until the mid 70's. The suspention is called MacPherson struts and was invented by Earle S. MacPherson in 1947 and was first used on the frensh Ford Vedette in 1949 and later the english Ford Consul/Zephyr Six from 1950. Further investigation is necessary. Edit: I've found out that Ford Vedette had a separate frame http://dvole.free.fr/fordsaf/v49.htm . That leaves us with the english Fords, and when looking at the visable boot one notice the arch in the middle. That is for the pipe from the petrol tank, and as the Mk I had that slightly to the right it seems likely this is a Mk II. Consul or a Zephyr/Zodiac? I find it more likely this is a Zephyr/Zodiac as the distance between the front and the rear wheel seems rather long. And when looking at the wheels and take into consideration they were colour matched this car is likely to have been made between February 1956 and October 1957. Possibly also Zodiac as this colour is too "bling" to belong to a Zephyr? Steering wheel on the right side meaning [206E]. That is a 1956-57 Ford Zephyr/Zodiac [206E]. -- Last edit: 2011-07-21 12:00:25 |

I had a look at my 1960 Ford Zephyr today, and saw this fan-shaped sheet metal around the wheel housing. As that coinside with this outside http://www.simoncars.co.uk/ford/zephyr2.html and this colour http://www.simoncars.co.uk/ford/z2convertible.html I find it quite unlikely this can be any other car than a Ford Zephyr/Zodiac Mk II. |
