1965+ my Super Minx S3 (probably still Hillman in those days before Sunbeam export branding started in mid-1966), and 2 Avengers (which would be Sunbeam). |

The white one is exactly the same as my parents used to drive... |

Mine could not afford a Super Minx - we were all squashed into various Imps instead. Then one day in 1968, my Dad got a Hunter ... What's the yellow estate-y thing on left (possibly with another Super Minx in same colour alongside)? |

We had second hand cars The yellow thing is /vehicle_416601-Kalmar-KVD-440-1969.html (with a Daf 44 engine). |

Was the Super Minx regarded as exotic/exclusive/unusual in the Netherlands or just slightly posh porridge (as in UK)? |

It was rather exotic and rare, though of course very conventional, even conservative. I'm not sure what you mean with 'posh porridge', but if it is something like a way of pretending to belong to a higher social class than one really belongs to (and can afford) I think such people in Holland would rather buy a Morris or Austin or Simca or a second hand Mercedes or US car. |

'Porridge' just something very ordinary with no image or charisma but nothing wrong with owning/driving one. 'Slightly posh porridge' just a bit different but not radically so and still unlikely to really impress anyone or be a babe magnet - was not thinking of these words as classist. I just like the idea of a Super Minx being thought of as exotic in foreign markets, especially with the Vogue and Sceptre as higher rungs on the ladder. -- Last edit: 2011-07-16 19:21:00 |
