Karrier ? |

Karrier is a possiblity being part of Rootes Group/Dodge therefore another badge for 'Commer'. Karrier was used for large contract builds for local government vehicles etc. The movie vehicles belong to 'Anglia Television' and could therefore be part of a contract build. This van appears to be a custom built outside broadcast van unlike the one behind which is standard. |

Sorry guys but Commer never had a 'badge' in the form of an insignia badge like Bedford. Earlier Commers had the Commer or Karrier name in a shaped strip of varying sizes depending on vintage (Red lettering or background Commer / Blue lettering / background Karrier). Models of this vintage had Commer or Karrier in individual chrome letters used on trucks and vans alike. My vote is for a custom made body on a Bedford chassis for the front vehicle because of the badge or place for badge under the windscreen and because the chassis is too large and heavy for any Commer van - BF was only 25cwt max - 2.2 ohv Hawk motor (wouldn't move a body as big as shown!) and largest 'Walkthru" is the one shown behind - a KFC60 and they were terribly underpowered in their largest form as well. The front vehicle is quite a bit bigger. If it was built on a Walk Thru, why change the front styling - unnecessary cost / extra work / time? I'll stick with Bedford as there are other fire engines and buses still around with similar front styling. Front bumper and wheel covers like this have never been seen on a Commer but I could find heaps of Bedford coaches with similar hubcaps. I'd go for a VAS or MD coach/bus chassis. |

This appears to be the same type of OB van... http://www.abctvgorehill.com.au/assets/photos/ob_links/ob-van-mar58-w.jpg Description...
