It is in fact a Broadspeed Jaguar Racing Coupé.

In 1985, Steed's Jaguar was offered to the (now defunct) "Avengers" fanclub.

The DVLA (UK car registration office) now offers a limited online facility for checking vehicles. The following is available from the DVLA for the Big Cat:

The vehicle details for NWK 60P are:

Date of First Registration
03 May 1976

Date of Last V5 Issue
11 March 1991

Year of Manufacture
1976

Cylinder Capacity (cc)
5343 CC

Vehicle Status
Not Available

Vehicle Colour
GREEN

What the above actually means: the Big Cat was first registered in May 1976, and last "officially" went to a new owner in March 1991. It currently has no road tax (Date of Liability).

Possible conclusions:

It is no longer a road-legal vehicle; it may be sitting in a garage/garden/driveway somewhere, or it may have been scrapped or broken for spares. It might even be being used in racing (many of its kind are). It's also interesting to note that NWK 60P was the car's legal registration number and not a makeshift for film/television.

I had previously read on an Avengers website..that this type of bodywork was No longer street legal ...and the car was probably being used in racing.
I'll change it to Broadspeed ...as no factory Jaguar came off the production line ..looking like this.! (..this is one of my favourite cars.! ..and probably in my top 10.!)

Check out the DVLA site..I think it was something like £5 per search/car (it's been a while since i last looked..may have been £15.! ..but more likely £5)
I was going to check up on some of my dads & my previous cars ..to see if they were still around ...or if they'd reached the scrap-heap in the sky.! ..I had already found out from a car dealer(..Not from the dvla though.!)... that a Buick Electra I had owned ... was sold to some spanish guys and had subsequently been rolled down a hill ..and written-off.!!

I'm quite fond of the big cats myself. There is a black series II XJ12 for sale in my neighborhood. Didn't they say it must be a V12 once in life? Since these cars are unsellable except to me I'll wait a couple of weeks and then make him an offer. He'll say 'no'. Then I wait until end of March and make him another offer. It always works...

Quote ...I had already found out from a car dealer(..Not from the dvla though.!)... that a Buick Electra I had owned ... was sold to some spanish guys and had subsequently been rolled down a hill ..and written-off.!!

I had a beautyfully restored (by myself) 78 Caprice. Six weeks after I sold it, the new owner (drunk) wiped out an entire Citroen dealership with it, then proceeded to knock a concrete wall into the windows of the house behind the front garded the wall was supposed to protect, and ultimately felled a lamp post. The stunt would have made Toby Halicki proud. They had to cut the guy out of the car with one of these giant tin openers. I saw the car in the scrapyard days later and was close to tears.

Anyway, the DVLA info is just telling you whether the car is currently registered or not. It doesn't tell you anything about the whereabouts if the car isn't registered. There can be several conclusions:

1. Rusting away in a front garden. England is full of cars rusting away in front gardens. Everytime I ask if it is for sale, it is not. Three weeks later it is sold to a banger racer for 50 quid. Conclusion: My money is not good enough for an Englishman.

2. Scrapped.

3. Exported and rolled down a cliff by some Spanish lads, if it had survived the handling by a professional export company in the first place.

4. Used for racing, which in England means banger racing being the most likely form of motorsport. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if Steed's Broadspeed kitty ended that way.

In France there are lots too, and when they are really too rusted they go to the scrapyard (for which you have to pay) rather than being sold (or even given) when they are still good. On forum-auto there is a thread full of photos of such car waiting...

No, the bodywork is completely legal, There was actually a replica(in burgandy, XJC with wide arches, no bumpers etc) sold on ebay last year which was fully road legal.

Its concievable its sitting in a collectors garage somewhere, I`ve searched high & low for this particular one, its deffinately not on the racing circuit, neither is it being displayed anywhere(I pray it isnt scrapped.. NO ONE could POSSIBLY be stupid enough to scrap it).

Lets just hope its being stored properly & not being allowed to quietly rust away in some dark, dingy lock up..

hello
i can shed some light on the subject of the car
for one its a jaguar ( nothing else )
it was converted bij broadspeed in 76 to have the looks of theyr race car
and if you have a good look at the pictures on difrent sites you can se there was a rear spoiler put on in difrent scenes lateron
underneath its yust a normal xj with minor ajustments

the car was sold of and than left standing for a long time
after that it was picked up bij someone but the car has never seen the light of day
and is at this moment still somewhere in the uk but only a select few know exactly where
the car is in a poor state

the wheels where kent style avon wheels
looking similar to the roadgoing jaguar wheels only a lot wider
and used in 76 as the wheels for the racing broadspeed jaguar xj coupe
in 77 they used difrent wheels

Hello,
I would love to know where this car is now.
When i was a kid my Dad ran a small transporting company (him, a landy and a trailer) and was off most weekends moving classic cars about.

He went to get a Jag one weekend but when he got there was told that the plans had changed and could he store it instead of of ship it. Guess what he came home with.

At this point it was still taxed and as we were going to have it for a while it was taken round the block once in a while. I even got taken to school in it once or twice. once the tax ran out it sat in the garage collecting dust and slowly letting the air out of its tires.

We had the car for about 5 years if i remeber correctly. I spent many hours in the garage sat in it pretending to drive it and so on. It was eventually picked up. I can remember my Dad was worried because it looked in a real mess! Covered in dust and 4 flats. We went round them with the foot pump and they all stayed up! Put some fresh petrol in and tried to start it. Battery was flat. So a quick jump of Mums car and it started!!! by this time it had started raining, so when Dad reversed it out onto the drive, all the dust washed off and it looked as good as new! owner turned up, put it on a low loader, and it was gone.

I would love to see it again as it really started my obsesion with cars, and I'm sure Dad would too. I wonder how much it would cost to get it back in my garage? haha!

Sure I have some pictures at home. I'll dig them out and scan them ;)

We were just talking about this car at the weekend. My father in law used to own it and my mother in law drove it once or twice. There are even pictures to support this. I am seriously considering bidding on the Steed Big Cat in the October auction. It looks a real mess, but if the price stays low enough it would be a worthy restoration. Does anyone have contacts for any of the original Broadstreet builders so I could get an estimate as to what it would take to bring it back to its former glory? I'm in the US (LA) so I could ship it here but if I could get it restored by someone familiar with the car that might be preferable. -- Burgess
