It's Düsseldorf, so I wonder why it was registered in Hamburg.

The IMDB says that some scenes set in Düsseldorf were filmed in Hamburg.

Quote The filming in Germany (in the cities of Hamburg and Düsseldorf) for the entire first series only actually lasted for ten days.

On this sign you see phone-numbers from Hamburg (040) and from Düsseldorf (0211) /vehicle_392950-Volkswagen-Passat-Typ-32-1978.html - obviously faked, as there is -and wasn't either- a local phone code with 04410.

@ingo: The building site was apparently a studio backlot in the UK.

I'm not sure about that, Gag.
Onfortunately the main pic was changed here /vehicle.php?id=393215 where you could see, that the worker's trailer was for sure German - rather unlikely to pull such a 25 km/h-chunk to Britain ;)

P.S. all other details on the building-site-pics here are German, too.

AFAIK the building-site was really in Britain, but they spent quite a lot of money to buy as much German equipment as possible to make it look authentic.
The other outdoor-scenes were shot in the Düsseldorf-area.

I disagree: for sure this is German: /vehicle_393300-Volkswagen-Typ-2-T2.html Just have a look to the buildings. And as Gag has said, that the outdoor-scenes were filmed in Hamburg, it's confirmed by the pic of the bus above. Sure, the HH-plates could be changed, too, but the style of the old, around 1900, houses in the background is typical for the Hamburg-area.

Here, too: /vehicle_393307-Volkswagen-Golf-Typ-17.html Absolute Hamburg-typical architecture. And the no-stopping-sign looks like the (also HH-typical) 1960ies enamel-version.

Yes, it's Hamburg of course, sorry. I wanted to write that, too, but since it's supposed to play in Düsseldorf, I mixed it up. As I said, street-scenes were shot in Germany, but the building-site was indeed on a studio-backlot in Britain.

Sorry, I disagree. At none of the scenes, we have here, is just any little UK-typicial detail to see, everything is German - and all these details as trailers, tools, even fences and the building-site helmets are different in both countries. For sure the makers would have tugged all this stuff to Britian.

@cl82: this is the only building-site-scene, which was filmed in the UK: fence and construction trailer aren't German.
