Stock footage from where? The house on the right looks British (windows, dormers). |

Northern Ireland, I'm sure, and I would assume that it was used as such in the show. |

So is it a Land Rover underneath? |

Not really. This is a Humber FV 1611 'Pig'. |

Hadn't these vehicles a specific nickname, back then in Northern Ireland? |

From Wikipedia: The Pig was also used by the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) for a short period during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The RUC painted their Pigs in Admiralty Grey, rather than the standard Army Deep Bronze Green. By early 1976 a shortage of Deep Bronze Green resulted in the Army fleet being re-painted in standard Matt Green. The Pig became particularly well-known from its presence on the streets of Northern Ireland during the worst of the Troubles. All developed for use in Northern Ireland: * Flying Pig: a normal vehicle with extending riot screens either side and the roof. * Holy Pig: rooftop hatch surrounded by perspex screen (see Popemobile) * Kremlin Pig: wire screening for protection against rocket propelled grenades (RPG-7) * Squirt Pig: fitted with a water cannon beside the driver for riot control. * Foaming Pig: fitted with a foam generator to kill the blast from bombs. Some vehicles have been given the machine gun turret from the Shorland Internal Security Patrol Vehicle. -- Last edit: 2011-04-14 12:56:50 |
