1939 De Soto grille with 1939 Plymouth headlights and trim on the front? Was there a Plodge model for Europe before the Kingsway? |

There were badge engineered Chryslers as far back as 1935, the Desoto/Plymouths were called Diplomats after WW2. -- Last edit: 2011-03-30 21:03:31 |

It is most probably one of the rare prewar Plymouth based DeSotos sold in export markets.Plymouth based DeSotos were marketed as from 1937 as the DeSoto Six, model designation SP 6 .In 1937 and 1938 they were based exclusively on the Plymouth Roadking chassis with 112 inches wheelbase .In 1939 the cars were based on the longer Plymouth Roadking and DeLuxe chassis of 114 inches. It is a left hand driven car ,so it may have been assembled in one of Chrysler\'s Scandinavian or in the Belgian plant excluding the UK.There were also 7 passenger variants based on Plymouth\'s 134 inch wheelbase chassis.Based on the rear quarter window I suspect this is one of them.So 1939 DeSoto Six ( SP-6).The prewar Plymouth based Dodges D 6/ D 9/D 12/D 12X are more frequently seen.Only the grille and hood handle look really DeSoto |
