Stunning Series III. Has part-time four-wheel drive with two-speed dual range transfer box. All axle hubs were permanent. To my knowledge, front freewheel (unlockable) hubs were never offered. So even when four-wheel drive was not in use, the front prop shaft and front differential continued to move, driven by the front wheels, despite not receiving torque from the engine. Land-Rover warned against trying to drive up an embankment at angle, as the conventional differentials would hinder the vehicle. Instead, Land-Rover recommend driving strait up the said embankment or obstacle to prevent traction loss, which is an overall safer route anyway. |
