1954/1955 Kaiser Manhattan or Special? I'd guess that it's not possible to determine which one? |

Not from that limited view. The only difference is in the hood ornament, and that's so subtle you would need a very close-uo view. |

Indeed, but I was thought more about the modelname as I don't know what the difference between them are. |

OK. There were 2 series in 1954, the Special and the Manhattan as you stated. The 1954 "Specials" were all re-serialed 1953 Manhattans with '54 grilles and taillamps substitued. They can be spotted by the old '53 style rear windows. The "true" 1954 Manhattans (built from the begining as 1954's) all used the new, dramatically wrapped rear window design. The photo does not show the rear window so this could be a '54 Special, a '54 Manhattan or a '55 Manhattan. (There were no '55 Specials). |

Ok then, thank you for the detailed explanation! |

Looks identical to the tailights of the Kaiser Carabela (based on the Manhattan) http://edant.clarin.com/suplementos/autos/2006/02/02/fotos/f002ah01.jpg |

The are. The Carabela was a continuation of the '54/'55 Manhattan design in Argentina. I believe production continued until about 1962 but I'm not up on the non-USA models. |

1958-1961 according to http://www.cocheargentino.com.ar/k/kaiser.htm |

Actually there are two versions of the '54 Kaiser Special. The early Special, as you point out, was a left over '53 Manhattan distinguishable by the '53 style rear window. The 1954 Kaiser late Special has the 3 piece wrap around rear window but thin rub rail molding, less fancy interior and no supercharger. |

Quite so. I should have made that clear in my 3-06-11 post. -- Last edit: 2022-06-16 15:38:59 |
