Which car you mean with that? Either T2 ( http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/VW_T2 ) or Variant ( http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/VW_Variant ). But there was never a T2 Variant. Volkswagen names all his Wagon's "Variant" (at least on the German market), but in the common speaking, if Germans are saying "VW Variant" without adding a model-name, this specific model is meant: Link to "de.wikipedia.org" |

Maybe he means variant (the word) which is used in a similar way as type, version, variation etc, I use this word quite often too. A way to differ these terms that may have nothing to do with each other, is to capitalise the first letter when speaking of VW. |
