The Citroën DS was an executive car produced by the French manufacturer Citroën between 1955 and 1975. Styled by Italian sculptor and industrial designer Flaminio Bertoni and the French aeronautical engineer André Lefèbvre, the DS was known for its aerodynamic futuristic body design and innovative technology, including a hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension. The DS advanced achievable standards in automobile ride quality, handling, and braking.Citroën sold nearly 1.5 million D-series during the model's 20-year production run. The DS came in third in the 1999 Car of the Century competition, recognizing the world's most influential auto designs, and was named the most beautiful car of all time by Classic & Sports Car magazine. -- Last edit: 2011-02-07 23:17:40 |

@kmbtacki: The ID and the DS are not the same model, although the ID has the same body as the DS. |

I do not really see the point of copy/pasting text from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citro%C3%ABn_DS to here... |

Especially since kmbtacki seems to think no-one else can recognise a DS... |

Often it is difficult to see the difference between DS and ID versions (especially on the newer models). The car in the main pic has Palas hubcaps, but no matching badge in the C-pillar and the side strip doesn't end in the reflectors. Also the colour isn't original (this looks like Beige Vanneau, but then the roof should have been in the same colour or, on a white roof, teh indicator trumpets should have been short and dark. I'd list it as 1968 DS though (since exact details are not visinle here). The white one in the thumbnails has the new, 1972+ door handles. Edit: I like the enthusiasm of kmbtacki about the DS/ID -- Last edit: 2011-02-07 23:22:45 |

If a newcomer comes to the site and sees "Citroen unknown" with Tiburon after it and no other discussion, I can understand them thinking that we might not know what a DS is and deciding to provide some helpfully intended info. |

@kmbtacki: Don't tell anyone else, but I don't actually know what a Tiburon is. Anyway - there's a lot of fun to be had on the site - it works in ways which may take some time to get used to (how to find things successfully, what conventions are used while something is being fully identified, the meaning of some of the terms used, and working out which contributors are experts for which vehicles). But it's well worth the effort. |

The DS is indeed a very intriguing car, and sure when they are involved with Louis de Funès Good taste! btw 'tiburón' is the Spanish word for 'shark' and the nickname for teh Citroën DS and ID in Spain. Similarly in Holland they are called 'Snoek' (='pike') or 'Strijkijzer' (='flat-iron'). |
