Custom-built: transit body on Jaguar XJ220 chassis. |

Was nicely done - a plain white van and the only external clue in the programme was lowered suspension and XJ220 wheels. And interior shots showed him changing gear with an apparently normal Transit stick. Mid-engined so only apparent when rear doors opened. DVLA details for G134 XVX are: Date of Liability 01 11 2011 Date of First Registration 22 09 1989 Year of Manufacture 1989 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 3500CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Petrol Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status Licence Not Due Vehicle Colour WHITE The details would suggest a Rover V8 transplant if we did not have the other info. |

They should replace those jag wheels with plain (but wide) steelies, complete with three battered Halfords hubcaps held on with cable ties. |

The XJ220 had a twin turbocharged V6 from the Metro 6R4. Was it 3 or 3.5 litres? |

The 6R4 was nearly 3 litres - 2991cc -- Last edit: 2011-02-07 18:12:24 |

Quote - ..."a Tom Walkinshaw-developed 3.5L V6 based on the engine used in the Austin Metro 6R4 rally car and fitted with twin Garrett T3 turbochargers, generating 542 bhp (404 kW; 550 PS) of maximum power at 7000 rpm and 476 lb·ft (645 N·m) of torque at 4500 rpm. This engine was the first V6 in Jaguar's history, and was the first to use forced induction." from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_XJ220 . |

I'd assumed somebody had swapped the bits for a laugh - and chuckled at its notional twin - a recession-busting XJ220 powered by a Transit diesel engine. But it was the mule used by TWR for developing and testing the XJ220's oily bits - should we call it an XJ220 prototype if the body is the only Transit bit?!? Apparently "often seen at track days complete with a copy of The Sun and ladder on the roof" - Link to "www.pistonheads.com" - with a nice photo and LOL comment "Dare say someone will be say it's a disappointment because it lacks a V12..." Saw a photo a few years back of a Citroen Dyane van (Acadian?) with the base of a Turbo Esprit - very subtly done. |

Apparently G134 XVX started life as a Ford pre-production development van, and was then sold on to Benetton F1 team as a spares transport support vehicle, fell into disuse so was picked up by TWR as a grotty semi-derelict for pocket money when they were looking for something to drop the Jag bits into. So it had an interesting early life before its resurrection. |
