Il n'en reste plus grand chose à la fin du film. Relativement tôt dans le film elle subit le même sort que la Jaguar dans Speed. |

There actually wasn't a "'Cuda" model until the 1970 model year. Prior they were just "Barracuda's". This beast is a 1968 Plymouth Super Stock Hemi Barracuda. In 1968, a special version of the Hemi was built, and put in 50-70 Barracudas, and (if I remember correctly) around 80 Dodge Darts. It was "conservatively" factory rated by Chrysler at 500-hp, while it really made well over 600-hp. In race equip (slicks & proper tuning) it would do the 1/4 mile at 150 miles per hour with an et. of 10.30! The cars were shipped to Hurst who installed the engines and further prepped the cars. |

one of my all time favourite car movies, i was devastated when i saw the ending of this film. the way they totaled that (1.gen) barracuda, pretty damn brutal thing to do to a classic muscle car... almost cried... www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z10408/default.aspx <--some more info about super stock cars if anyone´s interested. this is also one of my top-10 cars -- Last edit: 2007-07-12 03:36:08 |

In addition, the cars were sold with the understanding they were "Not for use on public roadways" in other words, they were factory racecars. The Darts used seatbelt buckles and straps to raise and lower the door glass, rear quarter glass was fixed in the up position |

That was a very very ordinary 340 powered barracuda. They made a few of them since there's a manual (with pistol grip shifter) that was used for interior shots and an automatic as well. They also sold one of them on eBay. It was a standard rental movie car, which means that it looked like in the picture above and was supposed to fill in for a "Trashed 1960's musclecar" in your film. It was even used in Malcom in the Middle as Malcom's first car. |

Was Malcolm's car this one,or a model just like this? |

Aziz: It was the very same car used in this movie. |
◊ 2008-11-26 12:25 |
I think this car should be 5 stars!!! It's main part of the movie, and it's been used all the time since the beginning of the movie!!! Besides, it's one of the best car ever seen in a movie!!! 5 Stars!!! |
◊ 2008-11-26 16:24 |
The Cadillac was much more used, and is much more the basis of the movie than this one. |

Funzi159, I own that movie and I can tell you a couple of things, maybe not anything you'd want to include in your Wikipedia article, but interesting, anyway, I think. 1. The car appears to me to be a 1968 Hemi Barracuda clone, for a couple of reasons: To wit: The batteries were mounted in the trunk in the original fifty-odd race cars built by Hurst for Mopar. There is a shot of the movie car wirh the hood up, near the end, and you can see the battery under the hood. Not an original race car, nor even a serious clone. Hemi '68 Barracudas, even the clones, are VERY expensive, and wouldn't be used as a daily driver, even by a doctor (Caviezel.) Original copies go for upards of 200K, even today. The disclaimer the forensic cop reads, that was attached to the door that got knocked off ("This vehicle is intended for supervised acceleration contests and can not be licensed for use on a public highway, etc...") actually was in the glove box, not on the doors of these cars. I thought it was a nice touch, having that read in the movie, but the location of the sticker was not correct. As an aside, I thought the sound quality of the Barracuda's exhaust was outstanding, and totally accurate with regard to what was going on onscreen. So often, it's not.... but a 340 SOUNDS a lot like a Hemi, run through mufflers, and I thoroughly enjoy the audio portion every time the car is onscreen. The sound crew should have gotten nominated for an Oscar for their capture of the sounds of that little Barracuda! As you can probably tell, I was very favorably impressed with the treatment they gave this car in the movie, and yes, it's definitely 5 stars... in the movie a LOT. Caveziel is a high performance car guyl I'll bet he had a lot to do with the filming and sound capturing of this movie.... and, no doubt, had a lot of fun driving those 340 cars; they're pretty fast, Hemi, or no... Good luck with your Wikipedia article; I'll watch for it. Bill |

Hi Bill, thank you for all your precious informations. I'm writing my article in italian, but I don't know if you can read italian. Anyway, I will take some of these things to rich my article, that is now in a trobuled situation about the cars section, because I cannot find as many informations as I need for them. I hope to find some more in the future, and finally complete the wikipedia article. Thank you for your support, it was very useful to me. Regards Bill Funzi159 |

@ Wiketti: "the way they totaled that (1.gen) barracuda" It's actually a 2nd gen Barracuda. 1st gen ran from 1964 to 1966. |

Actually the first factory named Cuda's were 1969 A-body performance models. Plymouth's choice to use Cuda was very similar to Coca-cola switching to Coke or Federal Express changing to Fed-Ex, it was in response to all the consumers calling them Cuda's. The 1968 BO29 Barracuda's are without question Cuda's, at least in my opinion anyway. -- Last edit: 2009-05-19 06:16:33 |

the car in the end was a clone but it did have a hemi cuz at the end when the hood was half way knocked off u could see the hemi valve cover and 67 -69 barracudas are 2nd gen the main reason 64-66 were still basically considered valiants |

I don't know if you saw the same thing than me, but the front spoiler, is a 1971 to 1973 Mach-1 Mustang spoiler !!!!! |
◊ 2011-07-29 02:25 |
1968 version due to the front indicator as part of the grille assembly and taillights. |

More Hollywood motorized mayhem and antique car destruction. |
◊ 2018-04-28 20:28 |
it has 426 written on the scoop but very very likely fake, they wouldn't be totally insane to wreck a real 426 HEMI -- Last edit: 2018-04-28 20:28:49 |

They wouldn't care, Mike. |
◊ 2018-04-28 20:29 |
the movies budget department would care, this was a low budget flick ... a real 426 HEMi is in 6 figures territory very likely a junker just cosmetically repaired -- Last edit: 2018-04-28 20:30:18 |

I was referring to the antique cars/automotive history. Means nothing to them. As long as they sell tickets, they would gladly destroy every last one. |

Those are very rare behind the scenes pics. They got 3 Cuda's for the Movie. One Factory Formula S 340 4-Speed (Hero Car), One 318 Automatic (Stunt Car that was later Wrecked in the 2005 movie Herbie: Fully Loaded) /vehicle_11800-Plymouth-Barracuda-1968.html amd one Non-Runner without a Drivetrain, that was used at the end and the Rollover scene. The Hero Car was later re-used by in a Episode of Malcolm in the Middle Season 6, Episode 9 (Malcolm's Car) /vehicle_45191-Plymouth-Barracuda-1968.html Later in 2005 or 06 the car is in the beckground at Criminal Minds Season 2, Episode 15 (Revelations) /vehicle_1268416-Plymouth-Barracuda-1967.html Some say The Cuda was in a PBS documentary 2005/06 but i couldn't find anything on this. The Car was sold on Ebay in 2007 for 5.600 Dollar. (Still locking for this Ebay Auction but couldn't find anything, probably to long aga). I found one post at Yahoo! where someone ask what Happend with the Cuda from Highwaymen. This is the Answer: "It was sold to a private collector in Ohio. It still retains all the props like the wooden cup holder and all the tracking equipment under the dash. Battery still mounted in the trunk. The damage caused on the left fender and quarter in the scene where the door is torn off is still visable." Please send me a Message for any more Infos or Questions. |

I like to think, Malcolm in the middle, the Fast and Furious, Herbie Fully Loaded, and this film take place in the same universe |

Right, isn't she the same 'Cuda in that demolition derby scene? I dimly remember a Barracuda and a 280Z when I watched that film. |
◊ 2023-04-04 17:47 |
Yep. That the car used for the rollover scene is nothing but a prop is very visible to anyone who owns the film and can hit 'pause' at the right moment: There's no drivetrain at all - just look at the pipe that makes up a not-very-convincing ersatz driveshaft. The 'hero car' used in the movie definitely is is a 'serious' clone and does have the battery in the trunk. In the movie at 44:47 you can see Jim Caviezel's character removing it from the trunk to use it as a power source. -- Last edit: 2023-04-04 17:48:18 |
