Yes, Ingo and they were marketed as "Morris Marina". (nothing to do with the ordinary 1971+ Marina, which eventually was built in Denmark, too.) |

According to http://www.aronline.co.uk/ (BMC 1100/1300 > International Flavours > Denmark) the [ADO16] was never built in Denmark, and in 1972 the Morris Marina [ADO16] was dropped and replaced by the 'real' Marina [ADO28]. The last three years only the Austin was available... |

There were no UK Mk3 Morris-badged 1100/1300 saloons - all were Austins. Does this also apply to DK, as Dynamike's comment suggests? |

"The Strange Things BMC Did", episode 347. "In 1974, just as the ADO16 was preparing to face its final curtain in the UK, Authi introduced a new 998cc version of the standard-bodied car, known simply as the Austin de Luxe. The specifications make interesting reading – with 55bhp on tap, it would have been likely to out-perform a standard 48-bhp 1100 model .......regarding the sale of Austin de Luxe in Denmark, the 1000-or-so examples offered for sale there were sold alongside the remaining 1100/1300 during January and February 1975.... it could well be that, these were sold right through until February 1976, when stocks were finally exhausted." from http://www.aronline.co.uk/denmarkf.htm or http://www.aronline.co.uk/ and search on Denmark or Austin De Luxe if the correct page does not come up. "The only real problem with the de Luxe was the plastic heater elements, which did not produce enough heat ... this weakness probably belied the car's Spanish origins, where heater output was somewhat less important than it would be in more temperate Northern European climes." However this is on balance probably not a Made in E Austin de Luxe due to film date being borderline too early and the pictured 4door car on website shows a 3-bar grille (as ordinary 1300 Mk3). For reference the Authi made car was also sold in Greece until 1977 - UK production had ended in mid-74. -- Last edit: 2011-03-01 03:32:30 |
