Small details that indicate that this scene was shot later in the USA, and not in Paris like most of the movie: - US headlights for the 504 - all the european vehicles of the scene were/are sold in USA (404, 504, VW Jetta, Beetle, New Beetle, Mini, Volvo 850, and I guess the Piaggio Ape too). - running lights on the side of the bumper of the VW - fake french plates: they should be white on the front of the vehicles (here they are all yellow), and the contents is not valid (last two characters should be two numbers, for the department number; only exception is 2A/2B for Corse). /vehicle_28087-Peugeot-404.html /vehicle_36029-Mini.html -- Last edit: 2006-06-03 17:16:54 |

The IMDB says reshoots were done in Vancouver: http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0383216/locations |

Sure, I was meaning that to match the rear yellow plate the front one should be white ![]() |

OK then replace "USA" by "America" in my first message ![]() |

They should've reused plates from Final Destination. ![]() /vehicle.php?id=4957 |

If you're talking about my comment, I was jokingly pointing out that one film made in Vancouver (Final Destination) did manage to get French plates more or less right, so it's a pity that The Pink Panther didn't re-use those ones instead of making their own non-quite-correct prop plates. |

I misread your comment, I thought you were meaning that they actually used the same plates ![]() Shame that they were not able to make real plates, as you get several sites with detailed info when you type "french license plates" in Google ![]() -- Last edit: 2006-06-11 20:53:41 |

Especially since they must have realised that the audience would be seeing real French plates as well. If you're going to spend time and money making prop plates, it's worth your while to spend a few minutes reasearching them on the Web. By the way, a while ago I saw an episode of Relic Hunter (aka "Sydney Fox l'aventurière", a crappy Canada-France co-production) set in Egypt. I looked at http://www.worldlicenseplates.com/ to see if they'd got the Egyptian plates halfway right...and found that they'd copied one of the plates illustrated on that site. ![]() -- Last edit: 2006-06-11 23:55:11 |

Note that such errors are not always visible when you watch the movie. Most of the people (including me) do not always paid attention to these details. We see them better because we watch still pictures... |

Mais bien sûr. That said, one of the other captures shows that the fake plates have the blue Euro-strip at the left, so they made an effort at getting the detail right. |
