Were Econoline's called E-series vans in the earlier generations? I know the last two generation Econoline/Club Vans were also called E-series. I can't think of them as just Econolines, I always think of them as Econoline E-150/E-250/E-350 mostly because I wasn't around before they were Econoline E-series, just like I can't think of Volvo or Saab as not American because as far as I can remember they were always part of Ford Motor Company and General Motors. |

I dont know how we managed to keep things running before you were around Explorer... The early models of the Ford Econoline "1961 was the first year" were referred as Econoline E-series 100/200/300, they were available in standard length, and Supervan, which was about 2 feet longer. The wheel bases were the same however the Supervan had additional body overhang behind the rear axle |

"always" has a strange meaning with you Saab Automobile is owned at 100% by GM since 6 years (50% since 16 years) Volvo Cars is owned by Ford since 8 years -- Last edit: 2006-06-01 11:25:45 |

Well, I only got into cars when I was around 6 and it wasn't untill 7 that I found out about Volvo or other foreign makes. So to me, as far back I can remember, Volvo was part of Ford Motor Company and Saab was owned by General Motors. Up untill I was 6, I only knew Ford, Lincoln, Dodge, Chrysler, Mercedes-Benz, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and Pontiac. And I only really knew Toyota and Volkswagon because my Dad has a VW Beatle and I when I was learning to read my Dad helped me pronounce "Toyota" off the back of a Toyota pickup when I was like 4. I didn't even know models, only Dodge Caravan, Ford F-150, VW Beatle, Cadillac El Dorado (neighbor had a restored 70') and Pontiac GTO (Grandpa had one). So, to me, for my entire life as far back as I can remember Volvo was part of Ford and Saab part of GM. Oh ya, I forgot who brought it up, said that California was best for antique cars. 1 neighbor has a red, restored 1970 Cadillac El Dorado, we have a 1960's Volkswagon Beatle and another one has a Volkswagon Thing, and I know a guy down aways from our place who has a 1900's Ford Model T which is completely restored and is his company car. My Grandpa had a 67' Pontiac GTO and my other Grandpa has a 1973 Volkswagon Super Beatle. And, he used to have a whole fleet of ancient 1960's Volvo's, 1930's Jeeps, a Datsun pickup and a 1973 Chevrolet Impala. All were wasted in a fire along with a pair of more 60's Beatles which were in our family since my Mom was a kid. Did I mention my Dad also is working on fixing up a 1954 Ford F-100? |

Beetle. Beatles were a band. I see a lot of older Beetles running around. People still use them as daily drivers here. One of the couselors at school drives a split oval window bug I believe. Green with sunroof if I remember right. I also walk by an elementary school and one of the teachers drives an orange '70s Beetle. I had an English teacher who drove a green '73 Beetle. One of the flower shops in town used to use an old VW Bus as a delivery van. It's amazing how well these vehicles are built. |
