I am fairly sure this is a LaFrance ladder truck but so far I have not found it amongst the LAFD historical info. |

American LaFrance 700. I'd be quite surprised if LAFD uses them in anything else but parades. /vehicles_make-American+LaFrance_model-700.html In fact, I can't believe they had them in regular service in the late-1980's. -- Last edit: 2010-11-27 21:38:45 |

The state of California is notorious for keeping fleet vehicles such as fire trucks and school buses in service FAR longer than they ever should be, but this even looks kind of old for something the Los Angeles Fire Department would be using in the late 80s. Also, I don't think this is a real in service fire truck, the lettering and front license plate don't look right. |

Good eyes pokeo, it's a "Historical Vehicle" CA plate. |

Los Angeles City Fire Department never had any or operated any 700 Series trucks, but Los Angeles County Fire Department had 3 700 Series aerials. This could be one of LA County's old trucks, but I don't know if any of them survive to this day. |

Also I think the logo on this truck started to be used in 1955. Before that had a small round logo. So this could be an early model 800 instead of a late model 700, the main visual difference between the 700 and the 800 is the 800 had storage compartments on the sides at the back, on the pumper model at least, but since this is a tiller ladder that doesn't apply. I think in 1958 they switched to quad headlights then soon after came out with the model 900, so it's older than 1958. Maybe Propliner knows for sure if it's a 700 or 800. |
