Very similar to the rounded-line truck(s) used by NBC in their November 17, 1992, "Dateline NBC" segment, "Waiting To Explode?" crash test, which set out to prove that these trucks were unsafe, would leak petrol/gas and explode upon being in a side impact crash.

A rare video of GM aggressively defending itself and the rounded-line trucks (which had been out of production for 5 model years) against NBC’s claims.

After suspicion that the test was rigged, it was later found that NBC had the trucks tampered with, to insure they catch fire during the side impact crash test. The fuel cap was loosely fitted (to allow fuel to escape) and an explosive charge was set off just as a car was rammed into the side of the Fleetside pickups.

GM still issued a letter to all known rounded-line truck owners with an offer for trading-in the truck for a new one if the owner was concerned. We got one of those letters in the mail, but never acted on it.

That's strange, my comment in response to Neptune's postings was deleted :??:
Well to repeat once again:

Thanks for your posts Neptune, very informative as usual.
On another note, should I make the first thumbnail the main image instead? It's a closer shot of the truck. I only chose the current image because it showed the whole truck.

Well, actually they are not as common as they once were. At one point in time, the rounded-line generation was fairly ubiquitous across the U.S. due to its successfulness in the pickup/utility market and its lengthy production run.

Today, they are only somewhat common in certain parts of the U.S. I once read on Hemmings collector-car market place, that the majority of rounded-lines claim the state of Texas as their home.

Here in southeastern NC, rounded-lines are common... resting peacefully in junk yards. People looking for ways to earn a little extra money in these hard times are now, more than ever, taking scrap metal to metal recycling facilities. I’ve seen a few rounded-lines end their existence in such places.

Last year I saw a mid-to-late '70s Chevrolet C-10 Fleetside, very similar to the one in the capture above, stripped of it’s fuel tanks and drained of its fluids. It was hauled in on a flatbed trailer, ready for "recycling". It had flawless body work, flawless glass, no rust. All it needed was someone who had the time and money to restore it. Instead it was picked up off the trailer, by a unremorseful crane (with crushing claws), and dropped among other much newer vehicles.

I still see a lot of these around here, especially on the farms even though this is "Ford Country" (The Norfolk Ford Plant was open from 1925-2007 and built F-Series since their introduction)

As I've mentioned before, these are still plentiful in the urban jungles of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. I see them a lot, some in better shape than others. From the early 1973 models to the late 1991 models. In fact, since I traveled this past week by airplane, I got a chance to spot some rare trucks on the tarmacs of such airports as LAX. Besides seeing some vintage mid-70's Ford ladder trucks (I forget the exact terminology for these), I also spotted a 1981-1991 GM Crew Cab. It was a good sight seeing that truck, along with a couple of 70's and 90's F-Series trucks, still serving at those airports.

There are still tons of them in east Mississippi, I know that. I see at least one of this generation every time I leave the house.

In fact, you have to go back to before the 1960 model before GM trucks start to get rare here. Even then, I know of quite a few 1947-1954s and a couple of 1958-1959s, as well.
