It is a 1971 VH valiant charger RT with hemi 6 cylinder 265 CID engine and 2 barrel carb Made october 1971 1 of 5 made with H51 aircon option Imported into UK in 2004 spent most of 2002 in Sydney motor museum in Ultimo as part of a Rootes Group/Chrylser Display I purchased it from the owner when the museum closed and i moved to the UK about 2 years later it is the only RT now in the UK however it is one of approx 10 aussie chargers on the road in the UK most of them are official UK export models the UK got 40-50 chargers between 71 and 74 out of a total of approx 200 Australian valiants between 67 and 76 most chargers were 770 V8 models 2 were RTs 1 dead 1 now back in Australia Top gear needed a more tasteful way for the introduction to the UK /arrival in the UK of the Australian presenters the for their joint effort Ashes special. The channel 9 version had them arrive in classic aussie muscle cars, an invading force coming to the UK to pour scorn on the Austin allegro and Morris marina . The UK version of the show with UK presenter segments had them arrive in a prison truck as a bunch of likley-lads from the commonwealth who needed to be shown that British was best. All in the usual vein of the show This part of the show was filmed on an airfield near Swindon, on a saturday, after approx 3 attempts to do it earlier in the week and at the usual test track closer to London, basically the arrival in town of both Tom Cruise and Cameran Diaz on a promo tour, and both of them being Top Gear/car fans meant a shooting re shuffle to get them onto the UK show so the rest of us had to wait, cancel time off work, re arrange our weekends etc also i believe this location was also reasonbly near to the home of one of the presenters....:) see also the Monaro and Ford GT from the same show. car also appears in the Charlie Simpson music video for his single Cemetery. It is an RT 2bbl In Hot Mustard (yellow) ( Butterscotch or Bahama Yellow are the US MOPAR Names for this colour). Running webers and a 4 speed at the mo. the 2 barrel setup is stored safely away i made a mistake in my update above. The UK got 2000+ valiants of which 200+ were VH and VJ chargers. 2 Rts, the vast majority were 770s this is a private import. dave |
