This was a very lucky shot.

I still hate not knowing the model.

Maybe. There's a fansite claiming the Fort Washington Fire Company in Pennsylvania was involved.
http://www.netreach.net/~sixofone/ttwa.htm

I'm trying to get on the site so I can find out if they have anything on their past apparatus, but my PC won't let me get there.

UPDATE:Fort Washington Fire Company says this is a '54:

It doesn't mention the model, though. One of us is going to have to e-mail the department to see if anyone there still knows.

The first link Ddey posted has a counter the lists visitors to the site by each state in the U.S plus the District of Columbia.

"HC-Series" model year actual range is 1949-59, with no external change between the model years. Both links given by Ddey65 are dead ends now, so if nobody has another avenue for the assumed 1954 my,

1949 GMC HC-Series?

My mistake. The cab was the one used by the New Design truck line, and models smaller than the 900-Series gained indeed the single-piece windshield in 1954-55.
