Makes me wonder, does any police force use the Grand Marquis as a squad car?

2006+ model.
The Grand Marquis is not used as a marked police car by any major agency that I know of, although they aren't uncommon in service as unmarked detective vehicles.

First, the font/die used on the license plate is incorrect. The most obvious is the open 4, which like 4s used on California plates.

Second, I think the production company might be having a hard time finding Panther platform cars in Hawaii to use as police cars. I don't know if Hawaii has any picture car companies with a parking lot full of Crown Victorias like in Los Angeles. In the "Lost" episode "Recon" (Ep. 6.08), James "Sawyer" Ford drives an unmarked Grand Marquis as a detective. Most of the Crown Victoria's used in "Lost," which was shot in Hawaii, were over 10 years old.

Aside from no one using Mercury as marked police cars...I was left wondering why they were in a Honolulu Poice car when they're with the state and not Honolulu police?

It's just a show...

They still have to work with local police.

They didn't want to get their shiny new Mustang or Camaro shot up ;)

There is a HPD officer that uses a Mercury Marauder as a cop car under the subsidized program. http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=59765

Interestingly enough I forgot to mention the Marquis(98-10) were approved vehicles for the Honolulu Police Department's subsidized(personal) patrol vehicle program such as this one. Seen at 2:50 in this YouTube video link

You’re correct on the local production company’s not having a parking lot of prop vehicles in Hawaii. Being from Hawaii most production companies use rental vehicles as prop vehicles. As it is difficult to obtain vehicles for production projects. In certain film/tv productions real or former emergency vehicles were used as background vehicles.
