Ward Volunteer body. 1989 was the last model year for the S-Series chassis for Ward. The International chassis option changed to the 3000-series halfway through 1989 after using up the 1988 S-Series stock. The funny thing was, where I went to school they had 4 Wayne Lifeguard school buses with International chassis, bought new in fall 1988, and those had the new 3000-series hood with the newer straight-6 engine. In fall 1989 (a full school year later) they bought 5 of these Ward Volunteer buses, instead of Wayne, and they still had the older S-Series chassis like this one, and also the old V8 engines. The Ward buses were built to poor quality standards and were retired between 1996 and 2001, as opposed to the Wayne buses which were a year older which lasted until 2002 to 2005. One of the Wayne buses was sold to a private school and was used until last year (now replaced by a 1999 Thomas/Freightliner.) |
