That really sucks, one less Topaz/Tempo, the world movie-world goes down a notch on my good list. Anyway, I believe it is a 1988 Mercury Topaz LS sedan.

Oh no, oh my gosh, now its on. The Ford Tempo and Mercury Topaz are the BEST mid-size-compact sedans from the year they hit production in 1984 untill their demise in 1994, no question. Name one compact sedan made from 1984 to 1994 that you think is better in any way then the Tempo/Topaz lines. I would love to compare and contrast them, ah yes and remember the Tempo/Topaz had: Optional 3.0L Vulcan V6 engines, availible sun-roofs, standard All Wheel Drive and more choices and options then any of those peices of crap with fancy names: Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Nissan Sentra. My Tempo has cassette with Dolby noise reduction, 12 FM presets and 6 AM presets, cruise control, power windows, power locks, a 2.3L SHO 4-cylinder engine with a top speed of 110MPH (with my speed ship), AWD, front driver airbag, trip odometer, power trunk release and gas cap-door release and lock and many, many more features. Rack a 1992 Ford Tempo GL or LX to any 1992 cars, and the Tempo (or Topaz) will be better in any comparison.

And might I add, you asked for it.

Yes, like I said, he asked for it.

And to save room: MSNAutos: Ford Tempo, Chevy Corsica and Dodge Aries comparison , a 1992 Ford Tempo GLS, 1992 Chevrolet Corsica LT and 1992 Dodge Aries LE comparison test.

Notice: Tempo has biggest engine, and highest horse power 3.0L Vulcan V6>130HP and the Tempo has most standard features, like air conditioning and cassette player which was optional of the Chevy and Dodge. Also, some of the things were wrong, the Tempo had optional power locks and standard power windows (keeping with the high-end sports GLS model).

And did I forget to mention? The Tempo (first generation exclusive) optional leather seating on the GLS model.

One thing the K-cars (and every single car related to it) always had going for them was the available turbo engine. In the Spirit R/T, it came from the factory with 224hp (and there's no trouble getting far more from these engines).

Oh, and why do you bring up radio presets as a luxury feature? It's just a little button.

2006-07-19 04:01

Well, sorry for what i said about this car, they sound pretty good (the Mondeo at the time was too, from what i remember) But don't worry, this one looks pretty rough already.

Does the Spirit have availible leather interior, sunroof, cruise control, front airbags, cassette w/ noise reduction, power windows, power lcoks, power trunk release, power gas cap door release or standard air conditioning, standard tilt steering wheel, standard All Wheel Drive (on AWD model) or a standard V6?

Also, keep in mind we are comparing a 1992 Spirit with a 1992 Tempo GLS V6.

explorer4x4

2006-07-19 17:40

Oh yes, and there are more then 3770 Ford Tempo/Mercury Topaz fanatics on tempotopaz.com, excluding people who don't know about it/guests.

Oh yes, I forgot to add another Tempo STANDARD feature: power sholder belts (LX/LS).

Antoine, wouldn't it be fun if they all came over here?

Power shoulder belts are the devil! I mean, what happens if it breaks in the open position? You gonna drive around with no shoulder harness?

And if you're gonna compare cars, you should compare a top-of-the-line model to a top-of-the-line model and not a top-of-the-line model to a base model.

explorer4x4

2006-07-20 03:24

Well, on MSNAutos, it listed the Chevy Corsica with only one model: LT, if that is what you meant. And the GLS isn't the "top-of-the-line" model, the LX is. I was comparing the Dodge Aries or whatever it was second-class model, with the Tempo second-class and the Corsica base (only because the LT was the only choice).

qwerty_86 US

2006-07-20 04:00

So? The middle of the line models aren't black and white. There's so many different option configurations that come with it so it's not really worth comparing. If you're comparing compare the extremes. Pick the base model or the high end model. And be consistent.

Hecubus CA

qwerty_86 wrote Power shoulder belts are the devil! I mean, what happens if it breaks in the open position? You gonna drive around with no shoulder harness?

You're just forced to manually unbelt them, which although it negates the whole power part, isn't that bad. I gotta admit though, that was the one cool thing about my old Escort. But, power seat belts (as proved by being on my Escort) do not make a luxury car.

Don't get me wrong a Tempo is a nice, reliable car but I'd rather a Corsica/Beretta. 1994-1996 V6 models made 160hp (older 3.1 models still made 140hp and the Corsica/Beretta was always available with a V6 unlike Tempo which didn't get it until 1992 because they were losing sales to V6 compacts)... even the base engine came with about 17 more HP than a Tempo 2.3 liter. Also you could get a Beretta with as much as 180hp (2.3 liter DOHC Quad4). Plus the Corsica/Beretta has standard ABS (not available on any Tempo) and driver's airbag (optional on Tempo). I'll give the Tempo credit for having available AWD and leather but Ford didn't sell alot of them equipped with either so it's no big loss to Chevy. I know I'm starting something here but I'm a Chevy fan so I have to stick up for my brand. Sure a Tempo GLS is nice but I'd rather a Beretta GTU/GTZ or Z26.

Okay, if your YouTube videos are actually YOUR car then NO it doesnt have airbags, the Tempos with airbags were the black steering wheels without the Ford logo in the middle. I can't argue with you though I do love Tempos but I dont go crying when one gets destroyed... I used to be in love with Caprices, those are ex-cop cars, do you even know how many of THOSE were destroyed in movies? I bet it is wayy more than Tempos. Im not trying to be mean but it gets annoying when EVERY wrecked Tempo has a comment from you say "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD" "OMFG CANT THEY DESTROY SOMETHING ELSE!?"

Also another typo on your part, base Tempos only have 96HP. It would be pretty damn hard to hunt around a GLS just for the extra horsepower.
