According Busesonscreen the 2003 bus is the unique prototype 1933-built Yellow Coach Model 706 'Queen Mary', a revolutionary 72-seat rear engined design.

Busesonscreen is correct in that the FACCO DD in the photo was a prototype built by Yellow Coach for the Omnibus Corporation in 33/34.

However, its original fleet number was 104 and it went to Fifth Avenue in New York as a demonstrator before finally winding up at commonly owned Chicago Motor Coach where its flag was changed but the 104 number was retained.

While I have no doubt that the bus in the photo was 104 it never carried the FACCO 2003 fleet number which was assigned to a small group of 720's to New York in 1936.

Certain distinguishing marks give away the fact that it is # 104.

The photo was not taken in New York either as can be attested to by the traffic signal and bus stop sign.

The bus, built in 1933, was the first rear engine double decker in the world and the only one with a 'straight-in' engine rather than the transverse engine. The model number was 706 and it was #103 on the Chicago Motor Coach Company roster. It was eventually sold on to a movie company where it became Fifth Avenue Coach #2003, a number that never existed in the New York fleet of 720s and 735s. It survived for many years at the Orange Empire Railway Museum at Perris CA, but was destroyed by an arsonist several years ago. Chicago Motor Coach #104 was the prototype Model 720 built in 1934 and as Mr TDM 4512 noted, it ran as a demonstrator with Fifth Avenue that year before becoming part of the Chicago Motor Coach fleet.

Belated corrections to previous post: The Fifth Avenue Coach Co roster number 2003 did exist but was a production model 720. Also, there is some uncertainty about how Yellow Coach 706 was destroyed by fire.
