a Golf Mk II? but twin-headlights ... hm. :-)) martin -- Last edit: 2006-05-13 16:22:18 |

There were no Golf mk2 convertible. They continued the mk1 as convertible until they made the mk3. In USA it was called "Volkswagen Cabriolet". But is it really a convertible ? it could be a vinyl roof. Doesn't it look like a Passat (= Dasher in US) ? Or Rabbit with Dasher headlights... -- Last edit: 2006-05-13 16:30:16 |

>>There were no Golf mk2 convertible. They continued the mk1 as convertible until they made the mk3.<< ah, I see ... >>it could be a vinyl roof. Doesn't it look like a Passat (= Dasher in US) ? Or Rabbit with Dasher headlights... << yes, maybe. its the only view I could get on that car. :-)) martin |

My thoughts.....Its not a Mk.I Golf because the drivers wiper pivot is too near left side of car. Its not a Mk.II Golf, the wiper arms look to be the wrong shape. Both Mk.I and Mk.II Golfs do not have square corners on the windscreen. Passat B2 has a similar windscreen but wings and bonnet look wrong. It does appear to be a vinyl roof rather than a soft-top. Is it something other than a Volkswagen? -- Last edit: 2006-05-13 17:35:56 |

just wondering - couldn't it be Golf built in Mexico or something? |
◊ 2006-05-13 18:05 |
They could build Golfs with some slight trim differences in Mexico, but very unlikely to have different windscreen, windscreen surround or wipers. Type approval for safety reasons means they are normally identical for each model of car, in all countries for both Europe and North or South Americas. -- Last edit: 2006-05-13 18:06:12 |

I'm thinking of Mitsubishi... |

Japanese with vinyl roof is more likely I think than VW. (If it is a vinyl roof?) |

Looks like modified Toyota Corolla (1980-84) for me... http://www.spiralgiant.com/pics/P1011958.JPG |

Agreed there are a lot of it that's the same. Either the grill has been completely painted black or removed. Turn signals, windscreen are the same, and the bonnet and wings where they are visible. |

I would of said VW Polo or whatever it is (I don't know anything about it except its in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas). |
◊ 2006-06-16 11:12 |
As said above, there was a VW Golf/Rabbit and a VW Passat/Dasher with similar front, but some major points do not match. It is much more likely a Toyota. |

This is definitely no toyota. If it were it should be the 1980 DX and then the headlights and the bumpers are are wrong. By the look of the mudguard an the windshield this is a modded Golf I |
◊ 2006-11-25 13:42 |
As said above, the shape of windshield does not match any VW. Headlights and bumpers of the Toyota could have been modified more easily than windshield frame of a VW. -- Last edit: 2006-11-25 13:42:31 |

Must be tagged as a unknowed vehicle. Definetely is not a early 80s Toyota Corolla |

Convertible Brasilia? Strange... See ya! []'s |
◊ 2007-10-25 00:44 |
I think its a Cabriolet VW of the 80`s, in Mexico we knew it as Rabbit VW or Caribe Rabbit VW |
◊ 2007-10-25 17:49 |
Caribe is just the name of the Golf/Rabbit, but windshield and pillars do not match (as said above...) -- Last edit: 2007-10-25 17:49:41 |

The hood looks just like the one on Jun´s toyota corolla pic with 3 lines so i would go for an early 80´s corolla homemade convertible. |

With the "Estado de Mexico" plate number I get the info: 1980 Toyota importado convertible. |
◊ 2008-05-23 18:44 |
It's no Volkswagen, neither windscreen, front hood or bumper are VW-like. |
◊ 2008-05-23 19:05 |
mnl64 says that he's got the car searching it for its plate, should we listent to him? |
◊ 2008-05-23 19:38 |
I suppose that we can assume that it is a Toyota, since it is not a VW for sure and it is the only other make suggested. But we still do not have a model name... |
◊ 2008-12-04 02:16 |
It is not Corolla. where is this movie set? it could be any make such as Mark II, carina, corona, Chaser..and all that. if I could get an answer soon, I could do some digging in the dirt and get you a model |
◊ 2008-12-04 05:09 |
The story takes place in Mexico and was filmed in Mexico. |

Well...I have done as much reasearch as I can posibly go.. and I must say that this is definatley not Toyota at all. The closest match to this body type that I could find was the 1974-78 version of the Toyota Corona..but that was not available for convertible body style. I dread saying..but this car is not Toyota..and maybe not japanese at all |

it looks like a Datsun to me http://www.riterrestorations.com/images/79dats01.jpg |

First off I don't think this is a true convertible. If you look at the A-pillars they seem to be black vinyl So I think this is just a car with an custom Vinyl roof. I also believe like others have stated that this is a 1980 Toyota Corolla : http://www.bjs-enterprises.com/results/toyota-1.jpg |

Well about the convertible part, someone said that the plate gave the info "1980 Toyota importado convertible." So it could still be a custom-made convertible based on a Corolla... |
