It´s the S-Max with the 2.5 litre 5-cylinder engine. It has got a lovely sound. |

...as it gulps petrol like an elephant at a watering hole. |

For a seven seater shopping trolley. Compared to a TVR or Lamborghini it's somewhat lacking. |

1. Every car magazine/show says that the S-Max/Galaxy is/are one of the best seven seaters you can buy 2. A few years ago, there was a comparison in a car magazine called "Auto Bild". They tested the S-Max 2.5 against the Zafira OPC. Well, the S-Max needed less fuel (10,8 litre) than the Opel (11,4 litre). And I think about 11 litres aren´t bad for a seven seater which goes like hell. |

Isn't this one made in Belgium? @M.Pfaffeneder: My parents' neighbours had an S-Max(TDi) for a couple of years. The engine grenaded itself after 60.000km or so. Not very impressing... |

I drove a Zafira once... ... Sorry what was the question? S-Max... Yes... Made in Belgium and probably better than a Zafira. Did I mention I drove one once? Or was that a Meriva? -- Last edit: 2011-04-26 17:32:01 |

@cl82: Do you mean a 1. gen Galaxy TDi? Because the S-Max has got TDCi engines. The Galaxy (1.gen.) had VW-TDi-engines, which weren´t so good. But if you mean a S-Max TDCi, than it´s really an exception, because there aren´t so many problems with them. Only the particulate filter could choke, if you drive short distances. |

Sorry if I disagree but AFAIK the Zafira turned out to be the more reliable car- notwithstanding it's as dull as the S-Max. |

At the end of the day like all seven seater shopping trolleys it is pretty dull. Maybe less dull than a Zafira but dull nonetheless. I am glad of the fact I am a wife and five children short of needing one. |

...yet. |

But the thing is people still buy small/medium-sized MPVs like Zafiras and Scenics even when they only have one or two kids, and I really don't understand why (I just assume they have no real taste or ethusiasm for cars or they'd drive something that's less van-like). -- Last edit: 2011-04-26 19:04:14 |

Perhaps your husband will buy you one then. |

As here? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFH4OLq_N1Y&feature=related But not every Touran-driver has kids http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRoPkUIvIxI&feature=related And be aware of having prejudices http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3oEPZ27J90 |

@m.pfaffeneder: Yes, TDCi was the correct name, sorry. I know a couple of people who have or had Mondeos equipped with the same engine, and they had no issues at all. Maybe my parents' neighbours had just bad luck, but still, if an engine packs up after just 60.000km that's an insolence. |

Recently I made a test-seating in a 2nd gen Zafira (you know about my idea to buy a RHD-car as next all-day-car) - and it was absolutely disappointing! The fact, that you cannot move the front seats really backwards, so that you have to sit there as in VW T3-Bus, makes it unbearable for me. Somewhere else here, 130rapid(?) has named it "Italian Gorilla-style", the small space for the driver. For me an immediate reason to throw the car out of the possible choices. |

If my first car were to be a minivan, I would definitely go for a first gen. Ford Windstar. The design is wonderfully 90s and these things are dirt cheap in Germany. However, most of the European ones are probably bean cans now. -- Last edit: 2017-03-01 15:37:57 |
